A
week of Orchids took place - with Sales from
Many orchid traders during the 7th and 8th of
June at the North of England Orchid Society
Annual Show
In June 2008 The Mansion House
was the centre of a week of orchids, with orchid displays
throughout this wonderful period home,
the Festival began with with a 2 day Orchid Show in the
Tenants' Hall for images from the show along
with awarded orchids,
see our annual show pages
All visitors to The
Mansion House were be able to enjoy the Orchid
Show as an addition to their tour of the House
as they will exit through the many Orchid
Society displays and orchid sales booths of the
traders attending
The North of England Orchid
Society Annual Show, held on the first two
days of the event,
awards for the best orchids in their classes
were given; along with Best Species Best Hybrid
in show and separate similar awards made to plants on
our own stand
This 2 day orchid show
took place on the 7th and 8th of
June, when Tenants Hall became the venue for
our Annual Show, and entrance to this
event was free, although there was an optional charge for those wishing to tour
the Mansion House as well.
Orchid nurseries and societies
gathered
together to bring to the North West of England
one of the largest displays of orchids you could
find.
In addition to the
various class awards, two perpetual challenge
trophies were given for the best species (won by Reg Harrison with a wonderful dactylorhiza
foliosa) and best hybrid ( won by Sheila
Horsfield's Odm Victoria Village x Odm
Parade) plants on our own display; and the
Cheshire and North Wales Orchid Society took the
best visiting society perpetual challenge
trophy.
Not only could
visitors admire the beauty of
hundreds of orchids in full bloom, but they were
also
able to buy from a selection of orchids for sale
to suit all tastes and pockets, from a simple
and inexpensive houseplant to those hard to find
plants for the dedicated orchid grower, and
find lots of advice for beginners as well, or
attend the talks during the day aimed
specifically at newcomers, and also the more advanced grower.
This show is always held at Tatton Park the
month before the RHS Flower show at Tatton, we
have displayed at the RHS Tatton Park Flower
Show since its inception, winning several medals
for our display of orchids; last year we were
again honoured to receive a GOLD MEDAL for our display
in the Societies Tent.
So if you want a preview of what we can do,
why not come along to our 2009 Annual Show and have an enjoyable day out at
Tatton Park as well as seeing a flower show especially for
orchids.
